Social Responsibility

At Hexa, we understand that everyone has a part to play in protecting our world and the communities that live in it.

As part of our 2024 – 2030 Corporate Social Responsibility Strategy, we have committed to two core promises:

  • We will protect this world one step at a time.

  • We will care for our community, including our employees, our suppliers, clients and their residents.

With a focus on 3 core areas, Social, Economic, and Environmental, and have developed fundamental pillars for delivering our CSR Strategy:

Hexa’s Sustainability Policy

Here at Hexa, we understand the construction industry needs a step change to ensure that we become a sustainable industry. We understand that our industry can has a negative impact on the planet including deforestation, waste creation, and contributing to 25% of the UK’s greenhouse gas emissions. Our Sustainability Policy outlines our key focus from now until 2050, including:

  • Transition to Renewable Energy Sources.

  • Reducing our Greenhouse Gas (GHG) including Scope 1 and Scope 2 emissions.

  • Promote sustainable practices both within Hexa and our supply chain.

  • Support Community and Environmental Initiatives.

Carbon Reduction Plan

Noting that embodied carbon from the construction industry currently makes up 20% of UK built environment emissions, we understand we have a responsibility to be more sustainable and are committed to being a net zero carbon company by 2050.

We’re working to eliminate carbon and waste from our operations and to improve the natural environment. We’re doing all we can to create a cleaner, greener, and safer world for our communities. We remain committed to reducing our Greenhouse Gas (GHG) emissions including Scope 1 and Scope 2 emissions.

To deliver our Carbon Reduction Plan we will:

  • Engage and collaborate with stakeholders - actively engage with stakeholders, including suppliers, clients, and industry groups, to drive collective action on carbon reduction.

  • Foster a culture of sustainability - embed sustainability into our culture by promoting a company-wide commitment to carbon reduction.

  • Integrate Carbon Reduction into our Corporate Strategy - embedding carbon reduction goals into the Hexa’s overall business strategy.

  • Review our goals and monitor regularly – ensuring that we are transparent in our reporting and instil accountability to deliver on our promises.

Social Value Strategy

As one of our six core values, we genuinely care about our communities. Across each project, we focus on providing bespoke community support, aligned to social issues and community needs. We work closely with community groups, clients and charities to develop a bespoke social value offering that alleviates social issues. Initiatives include local training and employment opportunities, SME support, volunteering, community cohesion projects and donations to local charities and not-for-profit organisations.

Diversity & Inclusion

At Hexa, we understand that the construction industry is too far behind other industries in recruiting underrepresented groups for example:

  • Women make up 15 percent of the UK construction industry, with approximately 2 percent working on-site.

  • BAME employees make up 6 percent of the workforce.

  • Disabled employees also make up 6 percent of the workforce.

As part of our drive to change this, we commit to being a fair employer, through:

  • A clear code conduct – to ensure everyone is treated with fairness and respect.

  • Equal & Fair pay - we are a committed Real Living Wage employer and believe everyone who works in our offices and on our sites deserves a fair day’s pay – not just the legal minimum. We are committed to gender pay equality.

  • Recruit Fairly – we have set targets for hiring, promotion, and retention of underrepresented groups and believe fair, equal opportunities should be offered to candidates, regardless of gender, ethnicity and age.

Economic Strategy

As an SME, we understand the importance of our economic responsibility. Our current economic focuses are:

  • Local spending - around 80% of our turnover is spent on the procurement of goods, works and services. We pride ourselves on a local commitment, across our people and supply chain.

  • Training – we understand the need to develop our staff. Not only for our gain but to fill the skills shortages within the industry.

  • Employability – offering fair and equal opportunities for apprenticeships, work experience, workshops, and CV reviews within our local communities.
